My story

Community Mahjong started around my own family table.

Board games have been part of my family. Whether it was Monopoly, Dominion or Settlers of Catan, we have been making memories together for years. More recently, mahjong joined the rotation and quickly became one of our favorites. Family mahjong nights turned into teaching friends, bringing new people to the table, and sharing the game with anyone curious to learn.

Eventually, I started imagining South Asian and healthcare themed tiles that could honor the game while providing the space for myself and others to share their collective experiences. I wanted to also make sure that I acknowledged and learned about the Chinese roots of mahjong and financially gave back to those communities.

Community Mahjong became my one-woman project. I drew every piece of artwork by hand, taught myself vector work in Inkscape, copyrighted the designs, and worked directly with a manufacturer to turn those drawings into actual tiles. I am so excited to share these tiles with y’all!

The goal has always been simple: celebrate and give back to the community, spark conversation, and gather people around the table.
